The story of a boy, Berlin, and some vegetables.
Andrew had been taking German lessons, preparing for an upcoming trip abroad. At some point he proposed we record a whole song in German, which sounded like fun. Despite pretending the band had transformed into a Berlin dance club act, we did not pretend that we actually knew German.
The song is electronic, a cross between Kraftwerk and chiptunes. The words are mostly beginners phrases (e.g. “where is the bathroom?”), passed through Google Translate to ensure we were accurate enough. The line about hovercrafts and eels is a reference to the classic Monty Python sketch.
This song is the beginning of our infatuation with vegetables in our songs and our cover art. The entire third verse is about vegetables (why exactly we don’t remember) and so they feature prominently on the cover. We haven’t actually tried playing that drum machine with celery sticks. Yet.
