The story of a boy and his dog.
Having scratched our songwriting itch with our eponymous song, we soon developed a full-on musical rash. We needed to write more music, the ointment in this gross metaphor.
This song is from the perspective of our character from our first song. We forget exactly where this idea came from, but Andrew definitely came up with the not-quite grammatically correct title. We leaned into the gag for this one, sprinkling a few details throughout the song before coming clean in the final chorus.
Far from a metal song, this lament for a lost pet became a slow, piano-driven ballad. Andrew composed a string arrangement with some additional orchestral flourishes as the song progresses. The timpani roll in particular gets us every time.
Lyrics:
Today my best friend went away
We were like brothers, you could say
We’d roll on the floor, he’d lick my face
No one will ever take your place
My dog ran away, and I am, too
It’s the only thing left to do
Since you fled I’ve been so blue
So I’m coming after you
I miss your fuzzy head, that mask upon your face
Your foamy little mouth, you can never be replaced
But one night you snuck from my room
How mom screamed and shooed you off with a broom
My dog ran away, and I am, too
It’s the only thing left to do
Since you fled I’ve been so blue
So I’m coming after you
I looked for you in the backyard, I looked in the trash
Hung up lost dog flyers, with a reward of cash
These nights are so lonely, no one by my side
If I never see you again, well I’d rather die
After three days I found you at night
I reached out my hand and you took a bite
It hurt so bad, I started to bawl
Maybe you’re not a dog after
It turns out my dog was a raccoon
Now I don’t know what to do
Since I got rabies I’ve been so blue
And I’m staying away from you
Yeah I’m staying away from you
